LOLLIPOP
SWIRL COOKIES
These are so
simple and a great project for your little ones to help make. They
can knead the color into the cookie dough and you’ll bring
their artistic side out for the holidays ahead!
Purchase refrigerator
sugar cookie dough. If you’d like to make your own you can
find a great recipe in the Good Things Utah Cookbook, Volume 1,
on page 117.
Separate dough
into equal sections and color as you wish. Today’s demonstration
uses green and red for Christmas. Try orange and black for Halloween
or use any combination that fits for your special occasion.
Once color is
kneaded into your two batches of dough, roll each color between
two pieces of wax paper making sure to flour bottom sheet lightly
and sprinkle flour on top of dough so it doesn’t stick to
the top sheet. Use a rolling pin to roll dough out into a square
(dimensions depend on amount of dough). Make sure both pieces are
approximately the same side. Refrigerate both pieces while still
between wax paper for about 15 minutes.
Carefully stack
each piece of dough on top of each other, removing appropriate pieces
of wax paper. Roll both pieces together until you have a cookie
"log". Using dental floss slice your log into cookie swirls
about ¼ inch thick. Press lightly to shape into a circle.
Place one Popsicle
stick on cookie sheet and press one cookie swirl on top (make sure
that the stick goes at least half way towards the middle of your
cookie). Bake as per instructions or at 350 degrees for about 12-15
minutes. Let cool for one minute and remove your Lollipop Swirl
Cookies from pan!
Kids love to
decorate these with sugar sprinkles or candies. They make great
party handouts. You can frost them too! Make a cookie swirl bouquet
and tie a tiny ribbon into a bow on the stick for an extra festive
touch! |
